Williams Sonoma: Making gifting easy with a chatbot

Williams Sonoma is a multi-channel specialty retailer of high-quality products for the home. Headquartered in San Francisco, it is one of the largest e-commerce retailers in the United States and one of the biggest multi-channel specialty retailers in the world.

To help its customers find the perfect gifts, Williams Sonoma wanted to create a conversational gift-finder chatbot. Williams Sonoma envisioned its customers being able to chat with Google Assistant or Google Home to find gift recommendations from any Williams Sonoma brand. 

Egen built the gift recommendation chatbot using Google Cloud Platform. The technology stack included Dialogflow and Google App Engine. We integrated the technology with Williams Sonoma backend systems for accessing the latest product information. 

Customers can provide basic information about the person they are buying the gift for, such as their age, then answer additional questions such as the gift occasion and the desired price range. The chatbot generates gift recommendations for customers either as cards or a carousel within Google Assistant or Google Home.

With this gift-finder chatbot, Williams Sonoma now has a seamless transition from helping customers with finding a gift to making a purchase.
